In memory of a wonderful surgeon, a fierce humanitarian and a valued friend

It is with great sadness that we learnt of Katherine’s passing on December 8th.
Dr Katherine Edyvane, a valued member of the SWB team and an Executive Board Member, travelled to Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Malawi between 2010 and 2012. She has made an incredible contribution to our organisation through sharing her vast knowledge about sustainable approaches to medical development. Those involved in SWB hold Katherine in highest esteem and are incredibly grateful for the contribution she has made and the friendships that have been formed.

From Millenium Development Goals to Sustainable Development Goals

With the end of 2015 fast approaching we are looking at how development under the Millennium Development Goals model will transition to development under the Sustainable Development Goals model. The United Nations has stated that “[a]s we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind” and we at SWB think that this aim is reflected in the model of medical education that we bring to medical professionals working in low resource settings. We believe that all people, regardless of circumstance or location, should have access to quality medical care and that the best way to achieve this is to ensure that medical staff who work in different environments share knowledge and skills.
